Chongqing's automobile subsidy of 30 million yuan boosted sales to 1.913 billion yuan, benefiting 11,000 individuals.

According to the Chongqing Development and Reform Commission and the Municipal Bureau of Commerce, the city will continue its policies to promote automobile consumption in 2023. They have formulated and implemented a new energy vehicle subsidy policy and implemented subsidy promotions to benefit consumers. The municipal government will provide subsidies of 1,000 to 3,000 yuan per vehicle to consumers purchasing new passenger cars (including new energy and fuel vehicles), with a cumulative subsidy of 30 million yuan benefiting 11,000 consumers and driving sales of 1.913 billion yuan. This has effectively stimulated the potential of automobile consumption.

In the first half of the year, the city's retail sales of automobile products increased by 6.2%, a 12.4 percentage point rebound compared to the first quarter. This contributed to a 1.8 percentage point increase in the overall retail sales of restricted commodities in the city. Among them, the retail sales of new energy vehicles grew by 90.5%, accounting for 27.8% of the city's restricted automobile products, a 12.3 percentage point increase from the same period last year.

Recently, 13 ministries and departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce, jointly issued a set of measures to promote automobile consumption. These measures propose supporting the renewal consumption of old vehicles, accelerating the cultivation of the second-hand car market, strengthening the construction of supporting facilities for new energy vehicles, and reducing the purchase and usage costs of new energy vehicles, among other policies. This will further stabilize and expand automobile consumption.

A spokesperson from the Chongqing Development and Reform Commission stated that Chongqing will earnestly implement the measures to promote automobile consumption. They will fully implement support policies such as subsidies for the purchase of new energy buses, exemptions from purchase tax for new energy vehicles, reductions in parking fees, convenience of passage, and guaranteeing road rights. They will continue the policy of exempting new energy vehicles from purchase tax, carry out activities to promote new energy vehicles in rural areas, support eligible districts and counties to carry out "trade-in" campaigns for automobiles, guide automobile production and distribution enterprises to offer preferential benefits, amplify the effects of government subsidies, accelerate the elimination and renewal of old vehicles, and drive the continuous vitality of the automobile consumption market.
